I got the vegan taro protein and added the konjac pearls. If you are expecting the same punch of taro that you get from a bubble tea shop, you may be underwhelmed. To me it tastes similar to Unico's vanilla vegan meal replacement (which I do actually enjoy), but slightly more nutty and earthy. My quick fix is adding some pure purple sweet potato powder, but you could also add ube or taro powder. This adds minimal calories while boosting the flavor a bit and giving that pretty purple color. In some reviews and marketing images, the color of the beverage appears light purple, but the bag I ordered did not have any purple hue to it. May just be a batch inconsistency.
I have also found that I prefer the texture using the higher amount of water that is suggested in the instructions -- this helps to mirror the consistency of a normal bubble tea.
Regarding the konjac pearls, they do have a different texture than tapioca pearls (which were sold out at the time of order), but after a couple drinks I have been able to get used to it and I don't mind them now.
I definitely appreciate Boba Nu for trying to do something different and the market really needed a vegan version of boba flavored protein. I think there is definitely room to continue to improve upon the product. For now, it is doing what I need it to do without having to choke down what is essentially a chocolate or vanilla milkshake, like with a lot of other vegan proteins.
